
OK, Language Laboratories had yet to be invented. We were the guinea pigs for the disastrous early experiments in audio-visual learning, also known as the "Audio-Lingual Method"!
This consisted of a portable cassette player and a slide projector.
The cassette player played the French phrase - we repeated it, en masse while the written phrase was projected on the wall, perhaps with some very simple graphics.

Needless to say, this was not an effective means of learning and we resorted to "Traditional" first year textbooks in year 2!

Thankfully, Nellie's unorthodox but effective methods of teaching managed to pull the 'O' level pass rate up for some of the '69 entry.
